Key Steps County Final
On Monday 27th March, the winners of the Allerdale gymnastics final attended Penrith Sports Centre for the Key Steps County Finals. The afternoon was packed with children from schools all around the county; St Martin and St Mary’s of Windermere, Kirkby Stephen Primary School, Maryport Primary, Stanwix Primary School of Carlisle and Seaton Academy to name a few.
For each Key Step 1, 2 and 3, there were elements of Floor, Vault and Body Management to demonstrate. Floor is where you are able to show off your creative flare through jumps, balances and tricks to a piece of music; the Vault means you are able to show off your posture and control from a jump and Body Management is where you can demonstrate your physical strength. The gymnasts were marked by different judges on each element they performed.
Allerdale, Furness and South Lakeland competed in the first round. Carlisle, Eden and Copeland were in the second round. This meant the team were able to sit back, watch and take notes from the other schools competing. What an excellent exhibition of talent it was!
After the initial nerves faded, our team showed remarkable determination, self-belief and talent. All our gymnasts have been awarded with a special Key Step Gymnastics, Level 3 badge for showcasing their hard work. They have all come away with a great deal of pride and a lot of new ideas to take forward!
