Fairtrade Fortnight

Today we played the Banana Split game. The children split into five groups: banana workers, plantation owners, shippers, importer and ripeners and shops or supermarkets.

A banana costs 30p. The children had a discussion in their groups about how much they should be paid out of the 30p. Everyone was shocked to learn that the banana workers only get paid 1p for each banana. We decided the banana workers should be paid more because they work hard.

Then we learned about Fairtrade Fortnight and how important it is to buy Fairtrade products, so we know workers have been paid fairly.
