Winter Poems

As part of our literacy lessons we have been looking at forms of Japanese poetry.

Haiku is a poem consisting of three lines and 17 syllables, in the pattern, 5, 7, 5.

Tanka starts of like a haiku and then two further lines of 7 syllables are added.

We worked with a partner, to create a haiku poem and then we swapped partners and added two more lines of 7 syllables to our poems, which made our poem into a tanka.

Then we typed our poems up and added a picture that would enhance our words.

We are so pleased with them that we are going to display them in our classroom.

We hope you like them too.
