Observing Producers and Consumers
Before we headed out, we discussed what we already knew about food chains and habitats. We learnt two new key words: consumers and producers. Producers are plants that make their own food. Consumers are animals that eat food. We also learnt that energy is transferred between organisms in food webs / chains from producer to consumer.
We looked out for plants (producers), small insects that were feeding off the plants (consumers), then we looked for any evidence of predators (spiders or birds).
