Measuring Shadows Experiment

Today we have been taking part in an experiment to find out how shadows change throughout the day.
The children went outside three times during the day and drew around the shadow their partner's body created.
They then measured the shadow each time.

The children were surprised to notice that the shadows moved during the day.
We learned that this is because as the Earth spins, the position of the sun in the sky appears to change.
This means the sun shines at different angles at different times during the day.

We also made sure our experiment was a fair test by choosing the same partner to create the shadow for each measurement.
