World War Two Day

Year 5 were very fortunate to have some expert visitors from the Helena Thompson Museum in Workington who came to teach us all
about World War Two.

The experts knew lots about life in Workington during the war and brought in interesting items for us to look at.

We learned about rationing and how people had to make do and mend their clothes because clothing was rationed.
We got to try on the things Harrington children would have worn during the war, and we were amazed that people had to turn old clothes into new outfits!

Lots of us wondered about Christmas presents.
We had a chance to look at some homemade gifts like the ones which would have been given during the war.

We also had a go at making things out of newspaper and played some games like children in Workington would have played during the war.
