Shabbat

Shabbat is the Hebrew word for Sabbath, which Jewish people mark from nightfall on Friday night until nightfall on Saturday.

From the first story of Torah (the creation of the world by the Almighty) comes the idea of a day of rest after 6 days of work. Keeping Shabbat holy is one of the Ten commandments. Shabbat includes family prayers, bread and wine, and time away from the busy life. Rest has a special place in Jewish life.

On Monday, Year 5 worked together preparing the vegetables for the chicken soup and made the dough for the challah bread.

Today, the children experienced what this weekly Jewish tradition was like, as they listened to the translation of the Hebrew prayers and blessings. As you can see, they thoroughly enjoyed the tasting!
