CHANGE IN PROCEDURES FOR APPLYING
FOR FREE SCHOOL MEALS AND SCHOOL CLOTHING GRANTS 2011/12
The procedures for applying for free school meals and school clothing grants has changed. If a child is currently receiving free school meals then their parent/carer does not need to fill in a new form to apply for the 2011/12 school year. A letter will be sent direct to all current claimants, from this office, explaining this procedure.
From now on all children that get free school meals will continue to get them when they go back to school in September unless they are no longer eligible, an electronic check will be carried out by this office to confirm eligibility. Claimants will only be contacted if we are unable to confirm their eligibility. In this case we will write to them and ask them for further information.
Claimants will also automatically receive their school clothing grant payment if they are entitled to it. Payment will be made in the same way as previous years, a letter will be sent to claimants which they must take to the Post Office along with proof of their identity. Payment letters will start to be sent out in early July.
